Electric pickup trucks are still a relatively new idea, but they've now been along long enough to gather some data on how they're selling. We totaled sales numbers from 2024, 2025, and 2026 so far to see which electric pickup trucks have had the biggest impact on the market in the past few years.
๐ The Core Development
For some perspective, electric pickups still make up a tiny portion of the overall truck market in the U.S. Even if you combine the sales of all six models listed here, over a time period of nearly three years, you get 232,809 units sold in total. Ford sold 801,525 units of the F-series pickup in 2025 alone . There are also arenโt any pickup trucks on our list of the bestselling EVs in 2026 , a list which contains mostly SUVs.
The sales totals for each model listed here include figures from the full-year 2024, the full-year 2025, and through the third quarter of 2026. In cases where the automaker doesn't release detailed sales figures, we used estimates from Cox Automotive.
๐ Background & Sector Context
If you feel like you see Cybertrucks everywhere you go, that's not just because their distinctive styling makes them stand out on the road. Tesla has sold quite a few pickup trucks in the past few years, which may seem surprising given the Cybertruck's polarizing design and numerous recalls early in its production run. Tesla started selling the Cybertruck in 2024, and that was the strongest year of sales, suggesting that eager early adopters made up much of the early run of 38,965 units sold that year. Sales declined to around 20,000 units in 2025, and through the third quarter of 2026 Tesla has moved an estimated 11,586 units.
Ford was one of the first to enter the electric-truck market, and its strategy hinged on the F-150 Lightning's similarities to the top-selling F-150 pickup. The F-150 Lightning has since been discontinued, ending production in 2025, but it managed to rack up a significant number of sales. Keep in mind that the Lightning went on sale for the 2022 model year, well before many of the other models on this list, so the sales totals here reflect only the latter half of its production run.
๐ Industry & Real-World Impact
General Motors' Hummer EV pickup was also early to the trend, debuting for the 2022 model year like the F-150 Lightning. But it took a completely different approach with its wild styling, mega-horsepower powertrain, and ridiculous off-road capability. GMC added an SUV sibling for 2024, and the caveat to the Hummer's sales numbers are that they include both body styles. We aren't able to break out numbers for just the pickup, because GM doesn't report those figures separately.

๐ฎ Strategic Outlook & What Lies Ahead
Chevy's electric version of the Silverado pickup got off to a slow start, racking up less than 8000 sales in 2024, its first year on the market. Those numbers picked up for 2025 as Chevrolet added lower-cost variants meant for fleets, cresting 11,000 units that year. But it appears demand has softened once again, as Chevy only moved 5327 units through the first three quarters of this year.
Rivian's debut model was the R1T, which was exactly as innovative as you would expect from a startup automaker. With impressive performance, futuristic styling, and new ideas such as a storage tunnel between the cab and the bed, the R1T aimed more at lifestyle buyers than at traditional pickup customers. The R1T went on sale for the 2022 model year, and sales have been on a steady decline since 2024, Rivian's recently launched compact R2 SUV is now outselling the larger R1 lineup, which makes us wonder if there is room for Rivian to add a pickup version of that model that would offer a lower cost of entry.
