First unveiled in Sep 2025 , the new GLC EV has finally arrived in India. Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Electric GLC 400 4MATIC at Rs 78.50 lakh, ex-showroom, alongside the commencement of local assembly at its Chakan facility near Pune. The first locally assembled example has rolled off the line, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-November 2026.
๐ The Core Development
The GLC 400 4MATIC uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 360 kW and 800 Nm. Mercedes claims a 0โ100 km/h acceleration time of 4.3 seconds, giving the SUV a strong performance brief alongside its luxury positioning. A 94 kWh battery delivers a claimed WLTP range of up to 711 km.
The SUV also introduces 800-volt electrical architecture, supporting DC fast charging at up to 330 kW. Under optimal conditions, Mercedes says it can add up to 303 km of range in 10 minutes. Achieving that figure will depend on charger capability, battery temperature and state of charge.
๐ Background & Sector Context
The Electric GLC brings a substantial technology upgrade, led by a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. It runs the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS, supporting connected functions, intelligent navigation, driver assistance, over-the-air updates and personalised user experiences.
Exterior highlights include an illuminated grille incorporating 942 pixels. Inside, the SKY CONTROL panoramic roof with illuminated stars adds another distinctive feature to the cabin. Mercedes also highlights the use of recycled materials and materials with a reduced carbon footprint as part of the SUVโs development.
๐ Industry & Real-World Impact
At Chakan, the Electric GLC is assembled on the same flexible line as Mercedes-Benzโs combustion-engine models. This allows the facility to handle multiple vehicle platforms and both electric and combustion powertrains under one roof.
